Splatter Paint Balloon Art!

Splatter paint balloon art is not only a unique way to make art, it’s also super fun! The bright colored, messy art makes for the best summer activity with friends and family during the summer. Here are six simple steps to creating your masterpiece:

Materials needed:

  • Washable paint
  • Balloons
  • Poster paper, canvas, or anything you want to splatter paint on
  • Clothes you can get messy in
  • Pins or darts

Step 1: Squeeze paint into the balloon

Stretch a balloon over the opening of the paint bottle. Don’t fill the entire balloon, a little goes a long way!

Step 2: Remove the balloon and fill it with air

Carefully remove the balloon from the paint bottle by pinching the neck of the balloon and pulling it off. If you feel comfortable blowing air into your balloons with your mouth go for it, but another alternative would be using a balloon pump. You want to make sure the balloons are completely filled with air.

Step 3: Knot the end of the balloon

When you are done blowing air into the balloon take the balloon tail and tie a knot.

Step 4: Make more balloons

This is where you can get creative! Make sure every balloon has different colored paints in them for a fun design. You can even match the paint with balloon color so when pinning it down to the paper later you can set up accordingly.

Step 5: Fair warning: you will get messy

This is not something you want to wear nice clothes for. Put on clothes that you don’t care for. Next, you need to find a location that can get messy too. A driveway, backyard, etc. You may also want to wear sunglasses or goggles to avoid paint splatting into your eyes.

Step 6: Pop the balloons over a sheet of poster paper

Put your poster paper or whatever you are using as your “canvas” and lay the balloons accordingly. Then pop them by poking them with pins, stomping on them barefoot or with shoes that can get paint on them. If you are older you can make a really fun game out of it by pinning the balloons to a foam core board and throw darts and watch your art work explode into a masterpiece.

Tie- dye edition:

Instead of filling the balloon with air you would fill it with water. This method will give you a tie- dye effect! You can tape your poster paper (better to use water color paper instead of regular for this) up to a wall outside and throw the water paint balloons at it. Perfect for a hot summer day.
