College Admissions Counseling

As a larger percentage of high school students than ever before prepare to go off to college, the admissions process has become more competitive than ever.  While many schools do provide some guidance, these programs have to be relevant to hundreds of students at a time and lack the individualized attention that your student needs in order to succeed in this process.

FLS Tutors provides a custom-tailored package to help your student navigate this difficult process. We can help you identify your strengths as an applicant, find your dream college, put together an application (and essays), and even navigate the interview and financial aid process. Choose one, two or even all of the services offered below to build a perfect package, or reach out to us to find out how to start the process.

Did you know that there are more than 4,000 degree-granting academic institutions in the United States alone? FLS Tutors can help you find the perfect college list, taking into consideration your location, possible majors, finances, athletics, academic strength, and your student’s unique needs and profile.

Application Guidance

Common app, school app, transcripts, letters of recommendation, resumes, and deadlines!  The complexities of managing multiple applications can lead many students into missing important deadlines or omitting crucial information in their application. FLS Tutors provides a deadline management service, with side-by-side guidance and a final double-check before any application gets sent into the world.

Essay Support

At only 650 words, the Common Application essay can seem easy at first, but this little bit of writing is one of the few places on a college application that your students’ voice can really shine through. It can distinguish them from other candidates who look similar on paper, and in a time when more and more schools are choosing test-optional or test-blind admissions, it’s taken an even greater role in the application process. FLS Tutors’ highly trained staff can guide you through the Common App essay as well as any supplemental essays from brainstorming and the rough draft to revisions and final polish.

Interview Preparation

Did you know that seven out of eight Ivy League schools conduct recommended, evaluative interviews?  Beyond the essay, this is another opportunity to show who you are as a person to your dream college—and hopefully gain a leg up in the admissions process! FLS Tutors can work with your student to tackle common interview questions, brainstorming answers, and practice sessions to deal with those dreaded day-of butterflies.

FAFSA and Scholarship Assistance

The average 4-year public university charges over $9,000 in tuition for in-state students and almost $24,000 a year for out-of-state. The average private university clocks in at $32,410 a year, and none of these factor in room and board or textbooks! It’s no surprise that the cost of university is becoming more and more expensive, which makes the daunting FAFSA even more important. FLS can guide you through the application process as well as help interpret any financial aid letters you receive. Additionally, we can guide students through the grants and scholarships that are available and best suited to their strengths and talents.
